When you claim, the insurer assesses it against the policy wording. Their claims team is doing a job, and that job is not arguing your case.
We present your claim properly: the right information, in the right form, with the wording points that support it identified up front. Where a decision goes against you, we put the argument, and we know the escalation paths.
For simple claims on some policies you can lodge directly with the insurer and it will move faster. We will tell you when that is the better option rather than putting ourselves in the middle of it.
We look at the policy and tell you whether the loss is likely to be covered, what your excess is, and whether claiming is actually in your interest.
Sometimes it is not.
We prepare and lodge the claim with the information the insurer needs, so it is not sitting in a queue waiting for a document you were never asked for.
We deal with the assessor and the insurer, interpret requests, and identify benefits or extensions in your policy that are easy to miss.
You hear from us as things move, and you can call us at any point to ask where it is at.
If a claim is declined or underpaid and we think that is wrong, we put the argument in writing, then escalate to the insurer’s dispute resolution process and to AFCA if needed. If we think the declinature is correct, we will say so.
Attend to injuries, contain the damage and do what is reasonably necessary to prevent further loss. Most policies require this and doing it does not prejudice your claim.
Theft, malicious damage, attempted break-in and motor accidents involving another party generally need a police report, and the insurer will ask for the number.
Photograph everything before it is cleaned up, moved or repaired. Keep damaged items where it is safe to do so, because insurers frequently want to inspect them.
Emergency make-safe work is expected. Permanent repairs, replacement purchases and disposal of damaged property should wait until the insurer has inspected or agreed the scope. Authorising work early is the most common way a straightforward claim turns into a dispute.
If you receive a letter of demand, a statement of claim or a regulator’s notice, do not respond and do not admit liability. Admissions can void cover under most liability wordings.
Policies contain notification timeframes, and some liability wordings are written on a claims made basis where late notification costs you the cover entirely. If something has happened that might become a claim, tell us even if you are not sure.
Our duty on a claim is to you. We are paid a commission by the insurer on the premium you pay, and we disclose that in our Financial Services Guide.
That is a different thing from the insurer’s own claims team, whose job is to assess the claim under the policy, not to argue your case.
Having someone on your side of the table who knows the policy and the process. We prepare and present the claim, deal with the insurer and the assessor, and argue the position where we think a decision is wrong. The insurer still decides the claim. Our job is to make sure it decides on the strongest version of your case.
It depends on the claim and the insurer. A straightforward motor or contents claim can settle in a couple of weeks. A large property or business interruption claim involving assessors, quantity surveyors and forensic accountants can run for months. We cannot make an insurer move faster, but we can make sure it is never waiting on us or on information you did not know it needed.
Call us on 08 9362 2166 or use the form below. Send the policy schedule and wording if you have them, along with what has happened. We will tell you whether the loss is likely to be covered, what your excess is, and what we think the claim is worth pursuing.
Ask for the declinature in writing with the policy clauses relied on. We will review it against the wording and the facts and tell you whether we think it is defensible. If it is not, we put the argument to the insurer, then to its internal dispute resolution process. If that does not resolve it, you can take the matter to AFCA at no cost, and AFCA’s determinations are binding on the insurer. We will tell you honestly if we think the declinature is correct.
One conversation tells you what the cover actually does, whether the price is fair, and what the rest of the market says about both. No jargon and no sales pitch.
Call us now, most enquiries are settled in one conversation.
