Personal Insurance

What a broker does that buying direct does not

Here is how it usually happens… You ring a direct insurer, tell them who you are and what you do, and buy the policy they quote.
Three months later you have a claim, and it turns out there was an exclusion or a special condition buried in the wording that changes everything.

Why did nobody tell you?

Because when you buy a product directly, nobody has to. Reading the fine print was your job.

Come to a broker and that flips. Telling you is the job. If there is a condition in that wording that could hurt you at claim time, you hear about it from us first, before you pay, not from a claims assessor afterwards. That is not a courtesy. It is what you are paying us for.

Why use a broker for personal insurance?

Direct insurers advertise on price. That comparison only works if the policies are the same, and they are not.

The differences sit in the excess, the sub-limits, whether the sum insured is agreed or market value, what is excluded, and how the insurer handles a claim. Those details decide what you get paid, and they are the part a price comparison does not show you. We read them for you, explain where they differ, and tell you what a policy will not do.

Sarre Insurance Broking Services has been placing personal insurance in Western Australia since 1978.

Why choose Sarre?

Cover matched to your circumstances

Your home, your vehicles, your caravan or boat, and any property you rent out. We look at what you own and how you use it, then place cover that matches, rather than fitting you to an online quote form.

We lodge the claim, present it with what the insurer needs, and follow it through. If we think a decision is wrong we put the argument, and escalate to internal dispute resolution or AFCA where that is warranted.

Reviewed
each year

Rebuild costs, contents values and vehicle values all move. We check your sums insured against current figures rather than rolling the renewal over unchanged.

Insurers you can't reach yourself

We deal with major insurers and with specialist underwriting agencies that do not sell direct to the public. That widens the options available to you, and often the cover, particularly for anything out of the ordinary.

Personal insurance
we arrange

Sarre Insurance Broking Services arranges general insurance for homes, vehicles, landlords and personal assets across Perth and Karratha region.

arranging personal insurance coverage

Cover for your building, your belongings, and in most policies your belongings while away from home. Two things are worth checking closely: whether your building sum insured still reflects what it would cost to rebuild today, and how the policy treats flood, storm surge and actions of the sea. Both catch people out at claim time.

Cover for loss or damage to your vehicle, in three levels:

(1) comprehensive
(2) third party fire and theft, and
(3) third party property only.

Optional benefits include agreed value, protected no claims bonus, hire car after an accident, restricted driver options and windscreen cover.

Note that compulsory third party cover for injury to people is included
with your WA vehicle registration through the Insurance Commission of WA. It does not cover damage to vehicles or property.

Cover for accidental loss or damage to your van anywhere in Australia, plus theft and liability for damage the van causes. Worth checking whether your policy covers contents inside the van and annexes, which are often sub-limited or excluded.

A standard home policy does not respond properly to a tenanted property. Landlord cover adds loss of rent, malicious damage and theft by the tenant, and in some policies rent default. Cover and exclusions vary considerably between insurers.

Cover for medical expenses, lost luggage, cancellation and rental vehicle excess, domestically and overseas. Pre-existing medical conditions are the most common reason a travel claim is declined, so it is worth telling us about any before you travel rather than assuming they are covered.

Cover for privately used watercraft, including hull, motor, trailer and third party liability. If the vessel is only in the water for part of the year, lay-up cover can reduce the premium for the months it is ashore.

Building and common property cover for strata and survey-strata schemes, including improvements. Lot owner fixtures and improvements often sit outside the strata policy, so it is worth knowing where the line falls before a claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what you own and how you use it. Most people need home and contents and motor vehicle cover. Add landlord cover if you rent out a property, caravan or pleasure craft cover if you own one, and travel cover
when you go away. We arrange general insurance only. For life insurance and income protection we can refer you to a licensed adviser.

Start with what a total loss would actually cost you, not with the premium. We go through your assets, work out the sums insured you need, then compare the wordings available to us, including excesses, sub-limits and
exclusions. We set out the options with the differences explained and you make the call.

Yes. We lodge the claim, gather the documentation, and follow it through to a decision. We interpret the wording, push back where we think a position is wrong, and escalate to the insurer’s internal dispute resolution process
or to AFCA where that is warranted. You will need to notify us promptly and provide what the insurer asks for.

At least annually, and whenever something changes: buying or renovating a home, a new vehicle, a new tenant, or starting to rent out a property. Home rebuild costs in particular have moved a long way, so a sum insured set
three or four years ago is worth rechecking.

Home insurance covers the building and permanent fixtures. Contents covers what is inside it, such as furniture, appliances, clothing and valuables. Most insurers will write them together or separately. Renters usually need
contents only; landlords usually need the building plus landlord cover.

A standard home policy generally will not respond properly to a tenanted property. Landlord policies add loss of rent, tenant damage, malicious damage and in some cases rent default, none of which sit in a standard home
policy. Cover and exclusions vary considerably between insurers, so it is worth comparing before you renew.
